Millenari, we are pleased to introduce you to our new column: Forgotten Dex – Among curiosities and secrets of the Pokémon world, where we will share many curiosities about the universe of pocket monsters. It is born from the collaboration with our colleagues at Pokéos, so, before we start, we invite you to visit their official website, a real goldmine for all fans.
Thanks to Pokéos and @FedeFadePSK, the initiative Forgotten Dex aims at bringing back into vogue the official (but forgotten) forms of Pokémon, through models similar to those present in Pokémon HOME. Forgetti will be accompanying you in the Forgotten Dex. He is a very nice Rotom Pokédex joined to the MissingNo. glitch, who loves to collect data on the curiosities of the Pokémon world.
Let’s not waste any more time and start this journey into the Pokémon world: Forgetti is ready to show us some little secrets!
The three legendary birds merge: Thu-Fi-Zer arrives
We must admit it: who among us has never dreamed of merging their own Pokémon? The possibility of combining multiple creatures is a mechanic that would make many Trainers happy and would certainly change the competitive game.
What would you say if we revealed to you that some fusions already existed in the Pokémon world? Here is Thu-Fi-Zer, an hybrid formed by Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres as a result of an experiment conducted by Team Rocket. The Pokémon appears in the Pokémon Adventures manga, in chapter number 33 titled “The Winged Legends”.
In this chapter the badges obtained by Red activate the Energy Amplifier of the Badges, giving life to Thu-Fi-Zer. Red, Green, and Blue try to defeat this unstoppable fusion, but Thu-Fi-Zer resists their attacks and throws the three Trainers out of the Silph Co. building. Trying to counter the hybrid’s moves, Red’s Ivysaur evolves into Venusaur, which hits Thu-Fi-Zer with a powerful Solar Beam. The continuous combined attacks of the Trainers finally cause the separation of the three legendary birds, that return to their original forms and fly away.
A journey into the cybernetic world: Porygon and “Porygon Zero”
Porygon, the Virtual Pokémon, first appeared in the animated series in an episode on December 16, 1997 (in Japan), titled “Electric Soldier Porygon”.
In the episode, we discover that Porygon is an artificial creature born through the programming codes of Dr. Akihabara, an eccentric scientist who invented the Pokémon Transport System, thanks to which it is possible to transfer Pokémon from one computer to another through a data network. Through his research, he created two Porygons, a prototype called “Porygon Zero” and a complete model.
The Porygon programmed by Dr. Akihabara has the ability to travel between the data of the computer world, managing to assume different forms that it also uses to fight. The forms, which you can find on the Pokéos website on the Porygon Pokédex page, are four: Sword Form, Hammer Form, Shield Form and Metallic Form (which it assumes with the Conversion move).
These versions of Porygon have never arrived in the Pokémon video games and today remain exclusive to the aforementioned episode of the anime, never broadcast outside of Japan due to the sad events that saw it as the protagonist.
“It’s been 3000 years”: Eternal Flower Floette
In the Pokédex that you can consult on the Pokéos website there is a particular Floette, the Eternal Flower form, also known as AZ’s Floette. Despite being central to the narrative and lore of the Kalos region, Eternal Flower Floette is not catchable and has never been officially distributed, but traces of its existence have been found in the game data.
From the datamine, we have learned some information about this version of Floette. Firstly, the base statistics, which, with a total of 551, are significantly higher than those of a normal Floette (371) and are close to those of Florges (552), the final stage of the evolutionary line, from which it differs by only one point.
At level 50, AZ’s Floette can learn the exclusive move Light of Ruin, a Fairy-type move with a base power of 140, the highest among all Fairy moves (excluding Z moves, Dynamax and Gigantamax).
Since it has never been released, the only way to obtain the Eternal Flower form has been hacking. It was possible to transfer the Pokémon up to Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and even in Pokémon HOME, but an update forced it to become a Bad Egg. A Pokédex description of AZ’s Floette was found in each of the seventh-generation titles, which we report below:
“The flower it’s holding can no longer be found blooming anywhere. It’s also thought to contain terrifying power“.
Pokémon Ultra Sun
“Terrifying energy is concealed within its ominous flower, but Floette still swings it about innocently“.
Pokémon Ultra Moon
In Pokémon Home, Floette now features an HD model and an icon, probably in anticipation of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Game Freak’s title coming out in 2025.
Pokémon Eggs
Thanks to the studies of Professor Elm, it has been discovered that Pokémon reproduce through Eggs, which are coloured and varied based on the species of the creature. Among material from video games, anime, manga, and TCG, there are many models of Pokémon Eggs collected on the Pokéos website.
One of these is the Togepi Egg, which has become a symbol of the Pokémon world thanks to the animated series. With its iconic red and blue decorations, the Egg appears in episode number 46 of the anime, titled “Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon”. The Egg is contested between Ash, Misty, Brock, and Meowth as a valuable prize in a tournament. Even though they fight to decide who is the rightful owner and Ash turns out to be the winner of the competition, when the egg hatches Togepi chooses Misty as its Trainer.
We all know the famous Manaphy Egg, transferable from Pokémon Ranger and from which it is possible to obtain the mysterious Seafaring Pokémon. By pairing Manaphy with Ditto in the fourth-generation games you could receive a Pokémon Egg from which Phione would be born.
Although it seems like a very common Egg, you should know that in the manga (specifically in the chapter “Alternate Dimension Showdown XI”, number 441 of Pokémon Adventure) the true design of the Phione Egg is shown: sky blue with a pattern imprinted that recalls the silhouette of the small Sea Drifter Pokémon.
Even in the Trading Card Game, there are some cards dedicated to Eggs, among which a particular Fossil Egg stands out. Introduced in the TCG as a Training card, the Fossil Egg is part of the Neo Discovery expansion, released in Italy back in 2001.
Poké Balls
We conclude this first article of the column with Poké Balls, iconic tools of the Pokémon series and fundamental in every Trainer’s adventure. In the database rebuilt on the Pokéos website you can find many types of Poké Balls that come from video games, anime and cards. Let’s look at three of them together.
The first Poké Ball we present to you is the Origin Ball, a basic tool introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The Origin Ball (which can be obtained during the main mission “The Counterpart”) is the only tool capable of containing Palkia Original Form and Dialga Original Form. This Ball is linked to the powers of Mesprit, Uxie and Azelf, as Professor Laven builds it from the Origin Ore, made up of the remains of the Red Chain.
Poké Balls cannot be missing in the world of the Pokémon TCG. In the Pokéos collection there are many Balls represented in the illustrations of the cards, such as the Team Magma Ball and the Team Aqua Ball. The two cards (designed by Ryo Ueda) belong to the EX Team Magma VS Team Aqua expansion, a set based on the rivalry between the two evil teams of the Hoenn region.
Finally, here is the Dark Ball, a version of the Poké Balls exclusive to the animated series that appears in “Celebi: The Voice of the Forest”, the film starring Suicune and Celebi. Pokémon captured with a Dark Ball undergo an increase in strength, becoming evil, and blindly obey the Trainer. This happens to Celebi, who is captured by the Iron-Masked Marauder precisely with a Dark Ball. This control, however, can be broken thanks to Celebi’s great force of will.
This concludes the first article of Forgotten Dex – Among curiosities and secrets of the Pokémon world. Please continue to follow Pokéos and our social media to always stay updated on upcoming releases. Forgetti will soon alert you with a nice notification!
